Windsor Police Conduct Public Survey

A recent Windsor police survey shows concern from the community about increased crime rates.

However, Windsor Police Chief Al Frederick says perception isn't reality.

"People are inundated with media so it seems like there has been a rash of stabbings, it seems like there's been a rash of violent crime shootings. Meanwhile, it's not so. The statistics show differently."

Statistics in the survey show a 16 percent bump in fear of the crime rate increasing since 2013 -- that number is heavily weighted towards people who live in the downtown area.

Even though crime rates have not increased, Frederick says police should work to ease people's minds.

"We do feel that we have an obligation to make people feel safe in their neighbourhood, homes and at work. So, that's something we're going to look at."

Meanwhile, 90 percent of those who filled out the survey showed confidence in the performance of the Windsor Police Service.
