Bonnie Leung and Emanuel Sousa are the first sea cadets from Windsor's Agamemnon branch to receive the silver level of the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Sousa says it's an achievement he's been working towards for a while.
"It's just a life long accomplishment," says Sousa. "I'm glad that I'll have the opportunity that not a lot of people have to go and meet the Governor General of Canada. It's kind of crazy to think about."
Leung says working towards the silver level was a rewarding experience.
"I like to be involved with the community and having this be a well round award, it gave me an opportunity to really work on my physical fitness and my service to my community," says Leung.
The award was set up in 1956 as a self-development program for youth with the silver level focusing on four areas including service, adventurous journey, skills and physical recreation. The award has three levels: bronze, silver and gold. Both Leung and Sousa will now begin working towards the gold level.
