Investigators have ruled Thursday morning's apartment fire in the 200-block of Brock St. as accidental.
The fire was confined to a third-flood apartment. It started in the living room and caused $35,000 in damage.
Len Armstrong was asleep inside his basement unit at 234 Brock St. when he heard a pounding on the door. A woman told him there was fire, so he grabbed his coat and a pair of crocks before heading upstairs to see if anyone was home.
"Tried to open up the door to see if there was anybody, but there was smoke in there, so I wasn't going upstairs," says Armstrong. "Somebody else tried to run upstairs too, but I don't think there was anybody home in the next two levels."
He believes a female university student lives in the damaged apartment.
