A big money donation is helping to kick off the campaign for a multi-million-dollar vascular health and research institute in Windsor-Essex.
Dr. Albert Kadri says better preventative care is needed as cardiovascular and kidney disease are the number one cause of death in the region, killing one in three patients — the highest rate in the province.
"We have to shift the focus to taking high-risk patients, making sure they're on proven, effective therapies that are evidence base so that they never develop those conditions in the first place," says Dr. Kadri. "The cost of treating established disease is very high."
Dr. Kadri adds the centre would a first of its kind in Ontario.
"We're very excited about this initiative. It's very evidence based, we have good support," says Dr. Kadri. "We're looking to have a tremendous impact on reducing cardiovascular and kidney disease in our region."
The Caring Kiss Campaign announced a million-dollar donation for the initiative on Wednesday night from Domino's Pizza Canada.
