[audio wav="http://blackburnnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/FIVE-QUESTIONS-WITH-BEV-SHIPLEY-CON-LKM.wav"][/audio] --- Bev Shipley has worked and lived in the Lambton-Kent-Middlesex riding his entire life, just as generations of his family have done since 1819. After graduating from Centralia College of Agriculture Technology, Bev took over the family farm, which he expanded to include cash crops and purebred dairy cattle. He has been involved throughout the years with many community and commodity organizations.

It is in the Township of Middlesex Centre that Bev and his wife Barb raised three grown children. They are the proud grandparents of ten grandchildren. He and Barb are active members of Community Bible Church.

Bev has 20 years of dedication to municipal government. Bev served on Middlesex County Council for 18 years – nine of those years as Reeve of Lobo Township and the last seven years as Mayor of Middlesex Centre. He also served a year as Warden of Middlesex County.

Bev was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex in 2006 and was re-elected by increasing pluralities in 2008 and again in 2011.Bev’s broad experience in small business and farming has given him an appreciation for the importance of developing national policies which promote global trade and tariff reductions. In 2010, his first Private Members’ Motion M-460 passed in the House of Commons. It called on Parliament to streamline fertilizer, pesticides, and veterinarian medicine regulations and registration approval processes for new agriculture products. This would allow Canadian farmers to be more competitive globally. --- Interesting riding facts:

  • Lambton-Kent-Middlesex was created in 1996 from the old Kent and Lambton-Middlesex ridings
  • Liberals held the seat from 1997-2006, but Conservative Bev Shipley has been elected since then
