A number of businesses in Windsor-Essex are being honoured for offering "living wages."
Pathway To Potential launched a campaign in the spring, urging organizations to bump starting salaries from Ontario's minimum wage of $11.25, to $14.15 per hour.
"It's going to have an improvement for businesses, in terms of their turnover costs," explains P2P Director Adam Vasey. "So they're not having to constantly retrain people and have that revolving door. They (participating businesses) are seeing reduced absenteeism. They're seeing more loyal and productive employees, frankly."
Vasey says 13 local businesses are on board now, a third of which have had to re-adjust their wages to reach the living wage model. He hopes this is just the beginning of a wave of change in Windsor and Essex County.
