The LGBT Pride flag is flying at Windsor City Hall today to kick off the 23rd annual Pride Fest.
Festival President David Lens says it's a chance to reflect on the gains made by the LGBT community in the past year, and there have been a few with gay marriage becoming a constitutional right in the US and Caitlyn Jenner becoming a figure for transgendered people. "The trans bill in the Ontario legislature was passed last year. Obviously it wasn't (as big as) the Supreme Court decision in the US, but it still affects LGBT communities around the world."
However, Lens explains, "There are still struggles we have to deal with. We still have youth suicide and those sorts of things that we have to get over."
The festival president expects more than 5,000 people to attend Pride festivities at Windsor's Riverfront Festival Plaza over the weekend.
