SIU Workload Too Heavy

The City of Windsor thinks the province needs to put more money into its Special Investigations Unit.

Police boards across the province passed a similar motion in June, as it takes the average SIU case almost 80 days to close. Windsor city councillor Jo-Anne Gignac, who also sits on Windsor's police services board, says "I know that there have been concerns in terms of the case-load of SIU." She believes the cases are taking far too long to come to a close, so the work continues to pile up.

Last year, the Special Investigations Unit looked into nine incidents in Windsor and Essex County.

Nine young volunteers aged 11 to 17 spent three days exploring and protecting the Lake Huron coastline during the Coastal Conservation Youth Corps' inaugural program in Grand Bend from July 21 to 23.
