The City of Windsor thinks the province needs to put more money into its Special Investigations Unit.
Police boards across the province passed a similar motion in June, as it takes the average SIU case almost 80 days to close. Windsor city councillor Jo-Anne Gignac, who also sits on Windsor's police services board, says "I know that there have been concerns in terms of the case-load of SIU." She believes the cases are taking far too long to come to a close, so the work continues to pile up.
Last year, the Special Investigations Unit looked into nine incidents in Windsor and Essex County.
