From Portland To Portland

A retired Kingsville dentist is going to pedal his way from Portland, Oregon to Portland, Maine to raise money for physician recruitment efforts in the county.

Dr. Charles Morgan is an avid cyclist, but the 7,243km trek from Portland to Portland will be his longest ride yet.

"I'm feeling pretty good," says Dr. Morgan. "I'd really like to be getting started tomorrow, but I still have another month to train. It's just getting to the point now where I want to get started, so I'm pretty excited about going."

Dr. Morgan has already tackled rides in Spain, France, Italy and across the US and Canada. The 40-day ride across the US starts with Dr. Morgan dipping his wheel in the Pacific Ocean on August 25.

"It's all about getting outside and being healthy and being active," says Dr. Morgan, feeling cycling is a good fit for the fundraising cause. "Even though we work hard at staying healthy, there's a time when we're going to need doctors when we're not."

The goal is to raise $50,000 with the money going to the Leamington District Memorial Hospital Foundation.
