Amherstburg and Pelee Island are both getting money for drainage improvements.
Pelee Island Mayor Rick Masse says about 60% of the island is under lake level making drainage essential.
"These funds are going to be able to replace one of our older pumps and we're going to begin a program of canal cleaning to increase the capacity of the drainage system itself," says Masse.
The federal and provincial governments combined are each giving Pelee Island $113,497 while Amherstburg is getting $2.933-million. The projects were approved under the Small Communities Fund.
