Land Swap For Mega-Hospital Plan

A land swap between the City of Windsor and Windsor Regional Hospital will be an integral part of the mega-hospital master plan.

Mayor Drew Dilkens says the city is giving up the old Grace Hospital site in exchange for ownership of the Met Hospital location. "They would turn the Metropolitan site over to the City of Windsor demolished, so it would be clean land and we would be able to then control development," Dilkens says.

A few ideas are floating around as to what would work best once Met Campus is leveled. "I think commercial along Tecumseh Rd. and then residential in where the hospital is probably makes the most sense," Dilkens says. "We want to make sure that we can control the type of development that goes there because that's a long-standing neighbourhood."

The exchange will likely take place in the next few years. Dilkens says the hospital plans to open an urgent care centre at the old Grace site before the mega-hospital is finished.

Stay tuned to BlackburnNews.com Thursday morning as hospital officials give reporters an in-depth look into the overall mega-hospital plan.
