New Pool Has Local Team Excited

Ground is broken for a new indoor community pool facility to be added onto the WFCU Centre in Windsor's east end.

Aside from a six-lane, 25 m. (82 ft.), competition-sized pool, the $7.4-million project will feature a splash pad, a therapeutic pool and ramps for wheelchair access into the water.

The WFCU addition is expected to be ready in time for the FINA World Championship swimming competition next summer.

Head Coach of the Windsor Essex Swim Team Andrei Semenov expects the new facility to get a ton of use after that as well, as he says swimmers from Tecumseh and east Windsor have had to travel across the city to Adie Knox or downtown for far too long. He adds that pools being built at the new YMCA, as part of Central Park Athletics on Central Ave., and at the Atlas Tube Centre in Lakeshore, won't be as fit for competitive training as this one.
