Windsor's getting a brand new 40,000 sq. ft. YMCA.
The facility, which includes a fitness centre and pool, is being built as an addition to Central Park Athletics at a cost of more than $10-million.
YMCA Western Ontario CEO Shaun Elliott says market research over the last year has shown Central Ave. to be the best location for a new building. "We're targeting 5,000 to 7,000 members. That contrasts with the less than 900 members we have currently downtown (Windsor). Without that kind of membership, you really don't make a difference in the community."
Elliott says it will also create about 20 to 30 full-time jobs, and between 50 and 70 part-time jobs.
Construction will begin immediately, with the target of opening early in 2016.
