A new accessible playground and splash pad are on the horizon for residents in LaSalle.
Mayor Ken Antaya says the new features at the Vollmer Complex will be more than just fun and games. "There will be a history component built into the splash pad for Canada, celebrating 150 years and we'll have sort of a history lesson on the town itself," says Antaya.
The idea here, he says, is trying to centralize recreation. "This doesn't mean that other areas are not going to be receiving attention for recreational purposes, it's just that we want to start there," says Antaya. "I think that splash pads are becoming so popular that we're looking at it at the different regions in the municipality as well."
The project is expected to cost $800,000, with a third of that funded through a federal grant, if approved. Construction is expected to start next year and be completed no later than 2017.
