Baxter Project Close To Students' Hearts

Walkerville Collegiate Institute is paying tribute to Rob Baxter by creating a scholarship in his name, and raising money for a school in Africa.

The former teacher died suddenly in April after suffering a brain aneurysm.

Student Council Prime Minister Kara Kristof says Baxter worked closely with her council, and meant a lot to all of the students at the high school. "He taught us how to be ourselves and welcoming to everyone. He taught us to believe in the ability to do something like this -- like this carnival."

The school had raised $7,000 before closing the campaign with a carnival on Friday. The goal had originally been to raise $20,000.

If you'd like to join the cause, cheques can still be made out to the Rob Baxter Memorial Project and sent to the Greater Essex County District School Board over the next couple of weeks.
