Community programs are getting a boost under a new five-year funding plan from the United Way.
Project Coordinator Kindu Selemani says programming is expanding from two nights per week to five.
"They were so happy when they heard that it's every school day," says Selemani.
He feels there's strong demand for the programming with 35 students now enrolled, up from the 11 students attending the program when it first rolled out in late 2011.
"When some of the kids saw that they improved in school, that program spread and the news went around and people expressed interest in it," says Selemani. "[The students] come from very impoverished countries where structured education is almost non-existent. They find themselves here where there's good education, they just need to grab this opportunity."
