Female applicants often fail the Windsor police physical test, which is why the force is trying to give them a leg up.
Staff Sergeant Maureen Rudall says 60 women took part in the prep exam this year that tested strength, agility and endurance.
She says this prep test shows them exactly what they're up against when they apply. "They do well on everything but the physical and then they have to pay again to go back and redo it," says Rudall. "The second time they do it they're very successful. So it's not that they can't pass, they just have to be exposed to it."
Currently, the Windsor Police Service employs 67 female officers and Rudall says they want to see that number increase. "We're looking for diversity so we want to get the best candidates," says Rudall. "We certainly don't want women to be intimidated or not try to become police officers because they're intimidated by a test that, once they're exposed to, they do very well on."
