The federal government is committing funding to safety projects at the Windsor International Airport.
The money from Transport Canada's Airports Capital Assistance Program will help replace airfield guidance signs and wind direction indicators. That will ensure safe visibility for flight crews, medical evacuation operators, employees and passengers.
Transport Minister Lisa Raitt and Essex MP Jeff Watson announced the funding this morning. Watson says it's an investment in the region's economy. "This investment will help support the efficient movement of goods and passengers at the Windsor International Airport, helping to ensure the right conditions for economic growth and long-term prosperity."
The airport has received $5.8-million for projects including the replacement of an airport rescue and firefighting truck, the rehabilitation of Taxiways F and G, and the purchase of electronic runway condition reporting equipment.
