Now that city councillor Jo-Anne Gignac has received the federal Conservative nomination for Windsor-Tecumseh, she says it's time to start campaigning.
First, Gignac says she's going to assemble a team and devise a strategy heading into the upcoming fall federal election. "I think people are realizing that it's critically important to have somebody who will have a voice at a table where the decisions are made," says Gignac. "If the region wants to be able to expect assistance from the upper levels of government, they need representation at those tables."
Over the last 25 years as a public servant, Gignac says voters already have a good sense of who she is as a politician. "Going on 13 years on city council and 12 at the school board level, they know I'm a fiscal Conservative," she says. "The tax issues are very important to the residents and to me."
Prime Minister Stephen Harper is scheduled to attend a roundtable discussion at the Waterfront Hotel in downtown Windsor Wednesday at 6pm. "He's coming to make some announcements and I think those announcements are going to be well-received by the community," says Gignac.
Gignac won't say what he'll be announcing.
