The Windsor Public Library is being sent back to the drawing board for its consolidation and renovation plans.
The library wants to use $7-million to add onto the Optimist Community Centre and Budimir Library, while renovating the former Sandwich Fire Hall and fixing the roof at the Riverside library branch.
Ward 6 Councillor Jo-Anne Gignac says it's the closures of the South Walkerville, Seminole and Remington Park branches that are the most contentious. "As a matter of fact, I think one of the (councillor's) comments was, 'Rather than consolidating one of the locations, it should have been the downtown library.'"
As per council's direction, the Windsor Public Library Board must once again work with city administration to figure out a plan that better suits the demands of council. The budget remains at $7-million, as agreed upon in principle by a previous council.
Some of the asks include; money being set aside for a library in Ward 9, keeping the Seminole library open, researching a digital library at the John Atkinson Memorial Community Centre, or consolidating the downtown branch.
