Budget talks in Kingsville have wrapped up and residents will now see a 1.1% tax increase for 2015.
For example, taxpayers with a $200,000 home will see a rise in their property taxes of $27.
During three budget sessions, Kingsville Mayor Nelson Santos says the increase was whittled down. "We were able to put additional dollars in reserves as well," says Santos.
In order to get this modest tax increase, Santos says some projects were put on the back burner. "We did defer a couple of street projects. For example, the Lakeview Ave. project reconstruction," says Santos. "We were looking at doing the full reconstruction this year, (but) we decided to hold off on the reconstruction."
Kingsville Council will formally approve the budget at an upcoming public meeting.
