Child Porn Investigation Goes Global

Windsor police detectives are moving into the next phase of their investigation after laying a total of 86 child porn-related charges.

Police from the Internet Child Exploitation unit are now working with other police agencies to identify the 23 victims around the world.

Windsor police spokesperson Matt D'Asti says this may take some time and require a lot of information sharing. "Our ICE Unit has looked and is satisfied that these are not local victims, but regardless of that, they're victims," says D'Asti. "We obviously want to be able to reach out to their families and be able to have them interviewed."

Daniel Nickolson, 48, of Windsor has been charged and remains in custody. His charges include extortion, luring and distributing, accessing, as well as possessing and making child porn.

D'Asti says this case serves as a reminder to parents to always monitor their children's online activity very closely. "We're really big and really good at ensuring we know who our kids are hanging with at school and who their friends are, but we want to take those same precautions when we're dealing with online activities," says D'Asti. "Ask questions and ensure that there are open lines of communication."
