Low Life Satisfaction In Windsor

When it comes to being satisfied, it appears Windsor residents are lacking.

Statistics Canada's latest life satisfaction survey questioned 340,000 individuals in 33 census metropolitan areas and 58 economic regions. The agency collected data in two surveys between 2009 and 2013 and respondents were asked to rate their satisfaction on a scale of zero to ten. While it measures just how satisfied residents are with their lot in life, it doesn't offer any explanation why residents in one city may feel better than residents in another.

The overall results suggest residents in Saguenay, Quebec are the most satisfied, rating an average response of over 8.2 out of ten. Residents in Vancouver said they were the least with an average response of just over 7.8. Windsor came in third from the bottom.

When it came to the percentage of residents who rated their satisfaction at a nine or a ten, Windsor came in the middle of the pack with 37%. As for residents who gave their life a six or less, Windsor had the worst score across the country with 17%, suggesting most residents or 54% would score their satisfaction at a seven or eight.

In 2013, the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development released a set of international guidelines for measuring subjective well-being and global support for the measure has grown. However, Canada has been collecting data on life satisfaction in some form for the past 30 years.
