Committee Favours Gun Range

Plans to expand an indoor gun range on Grand Marais Rd. in Windsor, and make it more accessible to the public, are moving forward.

The city's Planning, Heritage and Economic Development Committee approved re-zoning for a peice of land near Central Ave., to be used for the project.

Councillor Chris Holt says a weapons manufacturer currently runs a safe operation in the area, and he's concinced it will continue to be safe once it's expanded to include a members-only public range. "It's such a highly regulated industry. They have to go through so many hoops in order to actually make it safe. Windsor police had a few suggestions and they promised to abide by those and do everything the Windsor police said."

There are a few groups concerned about the expansion, including Central Park Athletics, the French-Catholic school board, and a few other family-oriented organizations that use the Central Park Athletics facility.

The issue is now expected to come before council for its final approval sometime in May.
