Ontario's new sex ed curriculum is being labelled too "graphic" for young kids and has sparked a protest in Windsor.
John Azzopardi is a parent himself and also the organizer of Saturday morning's demonstration.
He says sexual education should be left up to parents. "We're the first educators of our children and as far as I'm concerned schools, when they started years and years ago, it was for academics," says Azzopardi. "I know times have changed and things are happening in society, (but) it's the graphic details on the sex education side that have me very concerned."
Azzopardi says the Ontario government's "one size fits all" approach to sex education doesn't work. "I remember when my kids were younger and going to school -- the 'good touch bad touch' and where a baby comes from -- (that) can be explained in a manner where it doesn't have to be as detailed and as graphic as they're going to do," says Azzopardi.
The protest starts 10am Saturday at Charles Clark Square in downtown Windsor.
Under the new curriculum students in Grade 2 will learn about consent, while 8-year-olds will be taught about same-sex relationships.
