Overall, crime in the City of Windsor was down 5% in 2014 compared to the previous year, but there's one area that saw a significant drop.
Youth crime has declined 29% in last year compared to 2013 or 40% over the last five years. "I'm certainly very pleased by a number of efforts that have been undertaken with our community partners," says Deputy Chief Vince Powers.
More than 20 programs, including Police Week, Camp Brombal and the Harlem Globetrotters Anti-Bullying Program, help contribute to the decline, he says.
Robberies, criminal harassment and arsons were all down in 2014. Powers says firearms offences and drug-related charges are up year-to-date.
