A letter from Amherstburg administration is prompting a discussion about regional policing at the Essex Council table.
Essex Councillor Sherry Bondy hopes her colleagues will seriously consider investigating a regional option. "It's not about the OPP and their service. We do enjoy their service and think they do a good job, but at the end of the day it's about the costs to our residents."
Bondy says they have budgeted money yearly to cover costs if they decided to switch from the OPP to a different service. They recently agreed to a new three-year contract, which Bondy says gives them time to explore other options.
Amherstburg has been exploring regional policing as a way to cut down on their own policing costs.
