Housing Starts Tumble In February

Following three months of gains, housing starts fell 59% in Windsor-Essex last month compared to February 2014.

Ground broke on seven single-detached homes and four multi-unit housing projects. Construction started on 27 single-detached homes last February.

The year to date numbers suggest there's been no change in the number of townhouses and semi-detached home starts. However, single-detached construction has fallen 30%, accounting for a 24% decline so far this year.

Housing starts fell both provincially and nationally last month according to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. Across Ontario, ground broke on 16% fewer homes while across the country housing starts were down 6%.
