The federal government is fixing a few accessibility issues in the Town of Amherstburg.
Assisted Living Southwestern Ontario, the North American Black Historical Museum and Family Services Windsor-Essex will split $83,000.
Executive Director at Assisted Living Lynn Calder says $33,500 will help expand the parking lot at their main branch on Sandwich St. in Amherstburg. "Our parking lot is small. It's very tight, so the handi-transit buses are actually dropping off our consumers on the road," she explains. "Our staff have to go out and assist people to get out of the buses through the snow and ice, so that's a problem."
The Black Historical Museum is receiving $48,000. That will allow for new flooring, lighting, and more interactive and accessible exhibits.
The money comes from Canada's Enabling Accessibly Fund, which gives $15-million a year to accessibility-related projects across Canada.
