French Firm Buying Dainty Foods

French firm Marbour S.A.S. plans to buy Dainty Foods in Windsor.

The board of directors of MRRM, Dainty Foods' parent company, informed employees at the rice mill Tuesday after it voted unanimously in favour of the $11-million deal.

MRRM shareholders still have to vote on the transaction. Spokeswoman Lila Radmanovich expects the deal will close within six months.

Currently, Marbour has no presence in North America, and the transaction will be its first foray into the market. The Marseilles-based company has over 700 employees at 14 sites in Europe, the Caribbean and in the Indian Ocean. It is the third largest producer and distributor of rice products in Europe.

Radmanovich says it's business as usual at the Windsor plant that employs 75 workers.
