Assumption Church Donor Talks Pause

A temporary pause has been put on talks with an anonymous donor to try and keep Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Parish open.

One of the donors is taking an extended vacation and discussions will resume when they return.

Diocese of London spokesperson Mark Adkinson says it's a complicated process. "We are in discussions with a potential donor for a major contribution to the restoration of Assumption church," says Adkinson. "There was actually a meeting that happened around the Christmas break that the Bishop was at and it was a very positive meeting. The process is going to continue to move forward."

Adkinson says he can't comment specifically on why the process has taken more than three months. "It's not something I can really get into. What we do is we really respect the confidentiality of the persons involved," says Adkinson. "The process has some complexities to it and other than that I can't really get into details publicly."

The church held its last service last November. Assumption church is in dire need of $15-million in repairs. Bishop Ronald Fabbro has said, "we're not closing this church. In fact, we're still hoping that we'll be able to do the renovations and return to this church."
