The head of the Windsor Professional Firefighters Association hopes to have an arbitrator's ruling in a couple of weeks on issues outstanding from the last contract.
Officials with the association and the City of Windsor met with an arbitrator over the weekend to discuss issues stemming from a decision in 2013 that shortened firefighters' work week from 48 hours to 42. The same ruling awarded firefighters a 15.1% pay increase.
Angelo Gertsakis says the two days of talks were intense. "He's (the arbitrator) dealing with a lot of structural stuff as well," he says. "Basically, both sides presented in front of the arbitrator and now we just gotta sit back and wait for the award to come out."
He says there's no guarantee the arbitrator will rule on the side of the firefighters.
Meanwhile, Gertsakis says the association is still waiting to set a date for talks to begin with the city on the new contract. The previous one expired at the end of the year.
