The public board is seeking community applicants to help determine the fate of several local schools. The Program and Accommodation Review Committee will study the high schools in Amherstburg, Kingsville and Harrow plus Western Secondary and Harrow Public School. Superintendent Todd Awender says one committee will analyze all the schools and it will consist of staff, students and community members. "A lot of the suggestions that come forward from all of these people is to find creative solutions so that we can maximize our efficiencies in our school board and provide even better programming for all of our students," says Awender. Awender says the board of trustees makes the final decision after hearing recommendations from the committee and director of education. "Often the director's recommendations are very similar (to the committee) or could be exactly the same, might be a little different or could be totally different," says Awender. "The (trustee) vote sometimes is exactly what they say, other times there's amendments that are made and other times things are necessarily voted in favour of." Committee positions are not paid and the public must apply in school by the end of Friday. The first committee meeting is on January 21.
