Lakeview Park Marina will remain owned and operated by the City of Windsor.
During last night's Windsor Council meeting, councillors debated whether to sell the marina or try to find a private partner.
Councillor Irek Kusmierczyk says it's one of the only profitable recreation facilities the city owns, and that's why he tabled a motion to see it simply stay status quo. "It sent a message to the residents that utilize the marina, that keep coming back year-after-year, that we are in fact ready to make a long-term committment and a long-term investment in the sustainability and viability of Lakeview Park Marina."
Executive Director of Parks and Facilities Jan Wilson says that investment comes at a cost of $465,000. "Which was funded from a $300,000 new capital infusion, as well as some funds that we had in an existing reserve."
The money will pay for improved docks, security gates, a fuelling area and Wi-Fi on the grounds.
Lakeview Park Marina pulled in a profit of $100,000 in 2013, and Wilson expects that 2014's books will show a similar number.
