New Trustees Sworn In

It's a one-year term for Gale Simko-Hatfield as chairperson of the Greater Essex County District School Board, winning a vote over past-chairperson Julia Burgess.

"One year at a time. I think we have some great leadership potential and I'd like to help that grow and move ahead," says Simko-Hatfield adding labour talks will be one of the key upcoming challenges. "The contracts with our employee groups are opening in August and we're using a new model of negotiations that is far more provincially controlled than ever. So, that's new for us."

One of three new trustees, Alan Halberstadt, returns to the board after leaving in 1997 for Windsor City Council. He was acclaimed as vice-chairperson on Tuesday night.

"It wasn't actually my idea coming in and I was approached by other trustees," says Halberstadt. "I'm very happy with the result."

The Windsor-Essex Catholic School Board saw Barbara Holland acclaimed as chairperson while Mary DiMenna was acclaimed as vice-chairperson Tuesday night.
