Windsor City Council is sworn in and ready to get to work.
A large crowd packed the Chrysler Theatre in downtown Windsor for Monday night's inaugural meeting.
In Drew Dilkens' first address as mayor of Windsor, he talked about everything from jobs to bolstering neighbourhoods, and a 20-year plan. "There are more things that can be done with a longer time-horizon. But now we have to show how we can deliver on that, both with the budget and the desires of council."
The first thing on Ward 3 Councillor Rino Bortolin's mind is Windsor's Community Improvement Plan. "It'll give me incentives to get people to move downtown. That's the biggest platform idea. We need to get to planning that as soon as possible," explains Bortolin.
Ward 1 Councillor Fred Francis is excited about Dilkens' stance on taxes. "One of the things that will be coming to us very shortly, as the mayor said, is the budget. Being able to hold the line (on taxes) again is going to be a great achievement."
Ward 10's Paul Borrelli says he's really impressed with his fellow councillors and the city's staff so far, and is looking forward to what's to come. "Hopefully we can accomplish what we need to accomplish to make Windsor great."
The next regular Windsor City Council meeting is scheduled for December 15.
