Attempting To Sell Stolen Cell Phone

Police in Leamington have arrested a 15-year-old youth after he allegedly tried to sell a missing phone back to its owner.

Leamington Ontario Provincial Police say on November 23, a 17-year-old youth lost his phone at the scene of a motor vehicle collision he had witnessed. After searching the area, he provided his girlfriend's phone number to a male stranger and asked for a courtesy call if the phone was found.

Shortly after, the girlfriend’s phone rang and the caller told the owner of the lost phone if he wanted it back, he would have to pay $250.

The youth then reported the incident at the Leamington OPP Detachment, where an officer spoke to the suspect over the phone. The officer, who didn't identify himself, told the suspect he would meet him at a restaurant in Leamington with the money.

A 15-year-old youth was later arrested for possession of stolen property. He has since been released.
