DiCarlo Promises Less Council Tension

The final council meeting in Amherstburg on Monday night was tense at times with Mayor Wayne Hurst at one point threatening to have members of the audience removed from council chambers for jeering.

The audience was upset with the mayor's dismissive attitude towards Councillor Diane Pouget's questions at the meeting.

Mayor-elect Aldo DiCarlo was among those in the audience.

"I did make it through a little more than six weeks without running a negative campaign and I'd hate to start being mayor that way, but it was clearly uncomfortable," says DiCarlo, adding he wants to see less division on council once he's chairing the meetings. "We've had a lot of negative publicity in the last few years. If we can't be positive in town hall, how can we expect the rest of the town to be positive no matter what the issue is?"

Councillors Pouget and Bart DiPasquale will be the only returning members to sit on the new council, set to be sworn in December 1.
