Tickets For Jail Tour Going Fast

There are only 300 tickets left for public tours of the now-closed Windsor Jail this weekend.

Deputy Regional Director for the West Region Institutional Services Ken Fitzgerald says officials printed 1,800 tickets and so far, 1,626 have sold. "If we achieve that mark of 1,800 then of course we'll look at other ways to get members of the public through."

Proceeds from ticket sales will help pay for a memorial at the facility. Officials will also collect canned food for local foodbanks.

Fitzgerald isn't surprised by strong demand for the tour. "This is a very historic event," he says. "We had public tours available for Southwest Detention Centre. We had a very good public uptake for those tours as well."

The tours are Friday, November 14 from 12:30pm to 6pm, and Saturday, November 15 and Sunday, November 16, from 9:30am to 6pm.
