Windsor International Film Festival organizers couldn't have scripted a better opening weekend for its tenth anniversary.
Although final numbers aren't in just yet, Executive Director Vincent Georgie says record-breaking crowds have been at the Capitol Theatre from 9am until 2am over the weekend. "When you're showing a great hockey documentary like Red Army or you're doing Whiplash, which is a hot film, or Boy Choir, or doing great local films -- it attracts different people," says Georgie. "Anyone that likes watching movies is going to find more than a few films they want to watch here."
Georgie says this year's biggest flick is Whiplash, a drama-filled story of a young jazz drummer pursuing his dreams of rising to the top. "The audience (Saturday) night, they were the first to see it and were stunned," says Georgie. "It's so hot, so jazzy, so exciting. It's a really, really hot film."
The festival caters to primarily locals, but attracts people from the U.S., the GTA and as far away as Spain. WIFF runs until Sunday, November 9 and tickets are still available for all 109 films.
