WECHC Out Of The Basement

The Sandwich branch of the Windsor Essex Community Health Centre is on the move.

Several modules are being set up to make up two units which will house CHC programs on the northwest corner of College Ave. and Brock St. The new centre will eventually be located right across the street from there.

Executive Director Glenn Bartlett says it's about time the Sanwich centre is able to move from the basement of JL Forster High School, which is set to close in June. "Without any other tenants in the building other than ourselves, it's very hard for the school board to maintain it at appropriate standards. There are issues with flooding and any number of things."

Bartlett says planning is in stage two of five, which means the project should be done in 2017.

On any given day, all five WECHC campuses combine to serve about 23,000 people.
