Hanover Raceway GM previews "power-packed" July schedule

Hanover Raceway will play host to the 2nd edition of the OLG Ontario Women's Driving Championship this Saturday at 1:30.

This will be the first of 3 major weekends this month at the racetrack. GM Steve Fitzsimmons says after the first ever women's championship last year, the championship returns this year with 5 tracks participating over last year's 2.

"Natasha Day returns as the defending champion. It will be a fundraiser for Harness the Hope, the well-known breast cancer charity. Lots of events going on, silent auction, 50/50."

Following Hanover, the OLG Ontario Women's Driving Championship will stop at Dresden, Grand River, Leamington and end at London's Western Fair. Fitzsimmons adds this Saturday will end with a free concert from one of the drivers. Samara Johnson.

"A multi-talented lady, we'll have a free concert with her and a BBQ, where you can get a burger or hot dog with a drink and some chips, and all the proceeds will go to Harness the Hope."

Following a successful 2 stop championship last year, the first ever OLG Ontario Women's Driving Championship, Fitzsimmons says it will be great to have fans around for a great event.

"Pretty power-packed day, and really month, of lots of stuff going on, on behalf of a great charity, to see the best women drivers in all of Ontario, go head-to-head and clash to try to win the Ontario title, with us being the first of 5 stops this year."

Following this Saturday, July 23rd will be Trevor Henry Day at Hanover Raceway, as they celebrate 10 time Hanover Raceway driving champion Trevor Henry, and the horse he won last year's North America Cup with, Desperate Man. Both Henry and Desperate Man are Arthur natives, and fans will be able to come out and get autographs and pictures. See more on that by clicking here.

Then, on the 30th, the Dream of Glory race card will be held, with post time moved back to 6:15 p.m. in order to allow for the annual fireworks show, that hasn't been held fro 2 years because of the pandemic. Visit HanoverRaceway.com for more on all their upcoming events.
