The Sarnia Sting came up just short in their comeback attempt against the Flint Firebirds.
The two teams played south of the border on Saturday, with Flint winning 6-4.
The Sting fell behind 2-0 early in the first period, but quickly tied the game thanks to two goals by Easton Walos. Cole Emerton and Logan Hawery assisted on Walos' sixth goal of the season, while Parker Holmes and Dracen Campbell assisted on Walos' seventh goal.
Flint regained the lead late in the first period and added two more in the second period to push the lead to 5-2.
The Sting attempted a comeback in the third period, starting with a goal from Holmes. His second goal was assisted by Jonas Gulbrandsen and Tyler Challenger.
Challenger found the back of the net for his fourth goal with less than a minute left in regulation to get the Sting back within a goal. Simon Katolicky and Chase Gaughan with the assists.
This was as close as the Sting would get, as Flint added an empty-net goal to put the game out of reach.
The Sting will look to get back into the win column on Wednesday when they host the Guelph Storm.
