Sting host training camp at PASA

Another exciting season of Sarnia Sting hockey is right around the corner.

The Ontario Hockey League club is holding training camp this week, presented by Ironworks.

Players are reporting to town on Tuesday, and there will be scrimmages and practices at Progressive Auto Sales Arena (PASA), Wednesday through Saturday.

It concludes with the annual Black and White game, in support of the United Way of Sarnia Lambton, at 4 p.m. Saturday.

The Sting's full training camp schedule can be found below.

Head Coach Alan Letang is looking forward to another campaign.

"It'll be nice to have our group back," said Letang. "We expect some of our older guys like Mitch Young, Lukas Fischer, Hughston Hurt, Easton Wainwright, and Zach Filak to kind of hopefully take charge and lead this group early on and set the standard."

Letang said there will be spots available on the team, and it's up to the prospects to show the coaches what they can do.

"You've got four days to really show what you can bring, you've got four days to make our roster, and our vets are looking to start off on the right foot," he said. "It's always busy, it's always intense, but it's a lot of fun getting those kids to the rink. I think every year there are roster spots, and there are always some surprises. We talked about what our goals are this year, and what we expect coming into camp and coming out of camp. I'm looking for a really, really competitive camp. We've got a lot of guys that will push for spots, and that's good."

The Sting missed the postseason in 2023-24, and will look to improve upon their record of 25-39-3-1.

There's already a lot of buzz around the team, with the additions of second overall pick Alessandro Di Iorio, fellow draft choice Beckham Edwards, and import selections Ruslan Karimov and Jack Bodin.

Sarnia opens the five game preseason schedule on Friday, September 6 in Windsor, before hosting Flint on September 7.

The club's regular season gets underway September 27 against the Windsor Spitfires at Progressive Auto Sales Arena. They'll be in Saginaw the following night, as the Spirit celebrate their Memorial Cup title.
