The Sarnia Legionnaires are looking to complete the 2021-22 season on a high note following a victory over the visiting St. Marys Lincolns Thursday night.
Despite being eliminated from playoff contention earlier this month, the Legionnaires gave around 750 fans plenty to cheer about in the 4-2 win.
The Lincolns opened the scoring at 5:20 on the power play and led 1-0 after 20 minutes.
Sarnia's Josh Glavin evened the score at 5:21 of the second period with his second goal of the season. St. Marys regained its one-goal lead at 8:15 with another power play goal. Joel Verspeeten responded at 12:28 and the game was tied at twos heading into the third period.
Jett Morningstar gave Sarnia its first lead of the game at 6:00 on the power play with his eighth goal on the year. Legionnaires goaltender Brenden Stroble turned away six shots in the final frame and Ryan Richardson scored an empty netter to cap off the 4-2 win.
"I challenged the guys before the game to play with passion and pride and show that you care," said head coach Derek DiMuzio. "To a man, they did that, so it was excellent."
DiMuzio said they got contributions from everybody, including their goaltender.
"Strobes battled. We love his intensity, we love his effort level and it was obviously contagious and guys fed off that."
The Legionnaires have three games remaining this season. The club is back in action Saturday night when they host Leamington.
