Legionnaires name Ferrera captain for 2020-21

The Sarnia Legionnaires have named Joe Ferrera as team captain for the 2020-21 season.

He takes the role from Ben Schoch who will be too old to play this coming year.

The Sarnia native joined the GOJHL club full time in the 2018-2019 season and was called up as an affiliate from the Mooretown Flags Jr. C team during the 2017-2018 campaign.

Legionnaires Head Coach Derek Di Muzio said Ferrera has proven to be a leader at every level.

"In terms of his work ethic, he's second to none," said Di Muzio. "In practice, he's always leading the charge, he's always got an energy about him where he just works. We want to make sure that is permeated through our team by our leadership. That's why we selected Joe.

He's so respectful of the staff and his teammates and officials. When we were finished our series against London, a number of players came and tapped Joe on the shinpads as a credit to him because he's such a hard player to play against."

Ferrera played for the Lambton Jr Sting AAA program for three seasons.

He was an alternate captain for the team last season, putting up 14 goals and 26 assists for 40 points in 46 games.

The team is expected to name its alternate captains in the coming weeks.
