Joe Ferrera scored and added two assists to lead the Sarnia Legionnaires (6-7-1-2) to a 6-4 win over the visiting St. Thomas Stars (5-10-0-2) in GOJHL hockey action Thursday.
The game was tied 2-2 after the first period before the Legionnaires exploded for three goals in the first 6:18 of the second to pull ahead 5-2. The Stars scored near the end of the frame to cut Sarnia's lead to 5-3.
The teams exchanged powerplay goals in the third to make the final 6-4.
Jake Vince had a goal and an assist for the Legionnaires.
Logan Gardner, Matthew Cunningham, Cameron Ware and Josh Barraclough also lit the lamp, and Nolan DeGurse had two helpers.
For St. Thomas, Brady Elder scored and had an assist, and Ethan MacKinnon had two assists.
The Legionnaires scored once on three powerplays, and the Stars had two goals on six chances with the man advantage.
Jakob Knowles turned aside 30 shots in the Legionnaires net, while Stars goalie Matt Onuska made 27 saves on 33 shots.
Sarnia is seventh place in the Western Conference with 15 points, one up on Komoka, and three ahead of the Stars.
The Legionnaires wore their throwback Sarnia Bees jerseys, and the team honoured past players in a pregame ceremony. They're back in action on Saturday in Komoka and host the Kings next Thursday.
