Local Hockey Notes for January 9

A trio of Lambton Country junior hockey teams have snapped some lengthy losing streaks.

After the Legionnaires (17-17-0-1) got back in the win column against London last Thursday, the PJHL's Petrolia Flyers (7-24-0) snapped a four game losing streak with a 4-3 overtime win over Dresden Friday. The victory was just their second in their last 17 games.

Saturday night, the Lambton Shores Predators (7-25-0-3) brought an end to a nine game slide, with a 3-2 overtime win in Strathroy (11-18-2-4). Brett Fisher and Cale Markham scored, while Kyle Fisher potted the overtime winner. Cody Schneider and Max Ewart scored for the Rockets.

In GOJHL action Sunday night, Petrolia's Brendan Trottier had three assists as London beat Chatham 5-2.

The win puts the Nationals (25-8-1-0) in sole possession of second place in the Western Conference Standings, Chatham (24-9-0-1) slips to third.

The Major Bantams fell 3-1 to Sun County, Minor Midgets were roughed up 9-1 by Chatham-Kent

The Major Midgets were 2-1 winners over Cambridge. Cameron Rombouts and Ryan Rosborough were the goal scorers for the Jr Sting.

The Major Midgets will be in action this weekend at the Sarnia International Silver Stick. They open the tournament Friday morning at 9:30 against the North Central Predators.
