WCH Nathan MacKinnon scored twice in Team North America's 4-0 victory over Team Europe in a World Cup of Hockey exhibition game. Matt Murray stopped all 23 shots he faced in the North America net. Connor McDavid was named captain of Team North America.
Elsewhere, Olli Maatta scored the OT winner as Finland edged Sweden 3-2, Russia held on to a 4-3 win over the Czech Republic.
Canada plays USA tonight in Columbus, Ohio.

NFL The 2016 season started the same way the last one ended, with a Denver win over Carolina. The Panthers looked like they could avenge their Super Bowl loss but Graham Gano missed a 50-yard field goal with four seconds left. The Broncos' dominant defence came up big against Cam Newton once again as Denver escaped with a 21-20 victory.

MLB Jays and Tigers were both off yesterday, both preparing for big weekend series that have some serious playoff implications.
Toronto hosts Boston, trialing the Red Sox by a single game for the ALL East lead. Detroit welcomes Baltimore, a game back of the Orioles for the final wild card spot in the American League.

NBA Shaquille O'Neal, Allen Iverson and Yao Ming headline the 2016 class at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame that will officially be enshrined Saturday night.

The Major Peewees beat the Macomb Mavericks 8-2 in exhibition action Thursday, the Major Midgets have an exhibition game in Windsor Friday night. the regular season begins for most Jr Sting teams on Saturday. Paralympics Sarnia native Priscilla Gagne came within one victory from earning Canada's first medal at the Paralympic Games in Brazil. After going 1-1 in judo qualifying, the 30-year-old lost the bronze medal match in women's 52 kg.
