Markham's Andre De Grasse earned Canada its first medal in the men's 100 metres in 20 years. DeGrasse won bronze at the Rio Olympics with a personal best time of 9-point-9-1 seconds. Donovan Bailey was the last Canadian to reach the podium in the event, when he won gold in 1996. Usain Bolt became the first person to win three straight Olympic 100-meter titles. American Justin Gatlin took silver.
Meanwhile, Derek Drouin of Corunna tied for the best jump of 2.29 metres and qualified for tomorrow's final.
